Here is my Fantasy Basketball list, and why I chose them. In no particular order. The league is Head-To-Head (weekly battles) with playoffs towards the end of the regular season, and there were 10 people participating.
Here's my team:
Andre Miller (Phi - PG) - I chose him because I figured with Elton Brand on the team, Andre will get more assists. He was one of my late picks. I don't really think he would make that big of a difference, but he has a pretty solid game.
Rudy Fernandez (Por - PG,SG) - At the end of the draft, I picked Manu Ginobili because I thought that when he gets back in December or January, he'd be a good pick up for the Fantasy Basketball playoffs. Then after the draft was done, I figured that Manu won't be helpful to me - I might not even make it to the playoffs thanks to him, so I decided to drop him, and take a chance at Rudy Fernandez. I'm glad I did because Rudy Fernandez was on other people's sleeper list. Also, I saw him play in Spain during the Olympics, and he will come in off the bench and play well. He has a lot of experience, and so far he's been doing my team pretty well.
Leandro Barbosa (Pho - PG,SG) - He was quick and scored a lot under Mike D'Antoni's system when he was on the Suns, but now it's Terry Porter as coach, and everyone on the Suns seem to be adjusting. Leandro Barbosa also hasn't been able to perform well while his mom is in the hospital, and just today (or yesterday), his mom passed away. He's not going to do much for my team right now, but I really like him as a person - he's a really good guy, and I can only hope he and his family will be okay after what happened with his mom.
Michael Redd (Mil - PG,SG) - Michael Redd is a sharp shooter. He made 50 points one day, and that caused me to lose because he was on the other team. He's a USA Gold Medalist. He's good. He's all points, and not much defense, but that's okay, I have other defensive people.
David Lee (NY - PF,C) - David Lee was the MVP of the Rookie/Sophomore game during the All-Star Break. He's really good with rebounds, and everything else he provides is extra. He hustles for the messy plays and rebounds. He's an okay Center, but a really good Rebounder.
Carmelo Anthony (Den - SF) - I chose Carmelo Anthony because he was the best player at the time during the draft. He's a really good stat player, and Fantasy Basketball is all about stats, and not necessarily wins. He was suspended for the first part of the season, but he's back and he's okay. He'll just keep getting better, and Denver just got Chauncy Billups, so Carmelo has better help, in my opinion, than shoot-first guard, Allen Iverson.
Andrew Bynum (LAL - C) - Andrew Bynum's back on the Lakers after being injured for most of the season last year. He pumped up, worked out, and said he's 100% healthy. His offensive timing isn't back to where it was before, but he has stepped up on defense a lot. He is averaging about 3 blocks a game, and that's what I got him for - blocks. His little points (most of the points in the paint go to Pau Gasol) and assists will be extra. He changes a lot of shots - but unfortunately for me, those don't go on the stat sheet. I think that anyone on the Lakers won't have that good of a stat day (meaning no ridiculously high stats) because they're so deep, and don't need just one person doing all the work.
Kendrick Perkins (Bos - C) - Kendrick Perkins is good on defense and rebounds. He was just an extra player that I wanted to pick up because he's a Center.
Jordan Farmar (LAL - PG,SG) - I believe this year will be Jordan Farmar's break out season. He's already done really well for the Lakers. He's been getting more and more consistent - which he was lacking in previous years). He shares the time with Derek Fisher, but I wanted to go with Jordan Farmar because I think he'll be one of my sleepers. His numbers won't be ridiculously high, but they'll be pretty good for a very late pick in the Fantasy League.
Mike Conley (Mem - PG,SG) - I don't know much about him, but he's a starter on a bad team. That means he'll get a lot of minutes, but that can be good or bad.
Al Thornton (LAC - SF,PF) - I like this guy. He's very athletic, strong, fast, and does a lot for the Clippers. I see a lot of potential in him. His game isn't at its best yet, but he'll be pretty decent. He fights for rebounds, he goes to the basket for dunks (or fouls), and he's now working with Baron Davis - which always helps young talent. The downside is that I'm not too sure how his percentages will be. He's still fluctuating while he's finding his game.
Al Jefferson (Min - PF,C) - Al Jefferson is a really good underrated player. He's on the Minnesota Timberwolves. He's the best player on a bad team. It sucks for him, but the team is young, so they'll be good later on. But since he's the best player on a bad team, they'll be looking to him for all the shots. He has a solid line of rebounds, points, and blocks. Pretty good pick.
LeBron James (Cle - SF) - It's LeBron James, that's all I have to say. I got 3rd choice, and Chris Paul and Kobe Bryant were chosen. LeBron - of course!
The positions available are: PG, SG, G, SF, PF, F, C, C, Util, Util, BN, BN, BN. So 10 players a day, and 3 bench spots.
My strategy with picking in the draft was to pick the best player, for the position available, who can play the most positions. I figured that if you get a player that can play two or more positions, then you'll never have an empty spot while there's people sitting on the BN. You can configure your roster so that every spot is filled - when there's enough people playing.
For example, Jordan Farmar is a PG,SG, so he can fill in 5 possible spots: PG, SG, G, and the two Util spots. I just rearrange the players so it'll all fit - most of the time.
Hopefully with this roster and this strategy, I can finally win at least 1-3 place!
